The song, which at almost eleven minutes long, is the third longest recorded song the band, behind "The End", 11:42, and "Celebration of the Lizard", of 17:01. A version of 16:16, appears on their 1970 album Absolutely Live.Cuando the band recorded the theme originally, Jim Morrison, was not submitted to the session, so the band recorded with Ray Manzarek. Jim ended up becoming the next day and had to re-record the voices.
